To create what will become a world record breaking piece of artwork composed of gems both common and rare, a British man has turned to the popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter, hoping to raise the $328,000 he needs to finish the job, the Sacramento Bee reports. Chris Chamberlain intends to craft three monstrously large pieces of art, all dedicated to the United States of America, and all made from stained glass, topazes, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and polished diamonds.
In order to secure the money needed to buy the raw materials, Chamberlain is appealing to random strangers over the internet to donate to his cause before February 2. But his mini-philanthropists won’t only have the satisfaction of knowing they helped make it happen, they will also receive one of nearly 200 different kinds of rewards that Chamberlain has promised to produce for them. These range from smaller micro-mosaics of the American flag to medium-sized mosaics of famous places across America, made from 250 jewels, according to the Sacramento Bee. http://www.israelidiamond.co.il/english/News.aspx?boneId=918&objid=13923
