Classically trained actors bring Shakespearean plays into a completely new light.
Drunk Shakespeare , a New York live performance and web series, has announced that their Kickstarter campaign has three days left for contributions. The campaign is scheduled to end on March 6, 2014 with a goal of $10,000 still to be met.
“To beer, or not to beer” will certainly be the question this spring. Drunk Shakespeare will be live at Quinn’s Bar in New York starting March 25, 2014 and running every night for 12 consecutive weeks. Drunk Shakespeare isn’t your usual classic play. Attendees will still see the classic lines and performances, only with a twist. Out of the four talented, classically trained actors, one will be drunk. They will attempt to pull off a Shakespearean play without any hiccups, so to speak. This type of acting comes from a long tradition of high-quality performances pulled off by slightly inebriated but well-trained actors. It is a production in a class of its own and the performances are full of surprises – after all, no one knows how the single drunk actor will act or how the play will go. The live performances will be filmed to create a web series for those who can’t make it to New York — which means viewers won’t have to worry about missing any of the fun.
“The show is meant to be comedic, but still highlight one of the best writers in English history,” states Scott Griffin, producer of Drunk Shakespeare. “We don’t condone alcoholism or excessive drinking in any way. This is just a new way to produce Shakespeare and get away from the been there, done that routine. It’s ‘Drunk History’ meets ‘Abridged Shakespeare’.”
The crowdfunding campaign launched on Kickstarter on February 19, 2014 with a goal of $10,000. The funds will go toward the alcohol budget for the actors and if the show is a success, the team plans on taking the show on a road trip throughout the United States and around the world. But, the show will be available on the site through their web series — so people from around the world can see it today. Those who contribute can come watch the show and reap the benefits of contributing with prizes that include first access to the web series, a limited edition “Drunk Shakespeare” tankard, tickets to the show and more. Those who pledge over $1,000 can receive their own cameo appearance in Drunk Shakespeare to launch their own acting career.
Producers encourage pledgers to visit the show or the website for more information.
